it takes a chain
to deal with the rain

This poetry is definitely out of the My Fair Lady league, but the “rain in Spain” theme was hard to resist.  So, what’s this about a chain?  Once having installed eavetroughs on this Community Center structure, Mike McKay and Flip Reynolds knew a downspout was needed.  In the past, Mike has used chains for this purpose.  What would look attractive at the Pretty Pergola patio?  He asked Teresa, his wife, for her thoughts.  She searched Amazon and found the one you see.  Ordered on Saturday, it arrived yesterday (Sun 4/21).  Mike and Teresa decided there was no better time than the present, so off they went to the Community Center to install it.  Mike says the next step will be to acquire a pot with eye-appeal, put rocks in it, and drill exit holes.  “As water follows the chain into the pot, it will flow through the rocks and disperse on the south lawn, keeping if off the patio.”

In times gone by, this structure was known as the “necessary.”  Today it plays a new role.  Ensconced on its west side is a toolshed for the Garden Angels.  Historical fans will want to know aspects of its original purpose are in place, but has not been operational for decades.  It does preserve an important part of Clark Lake history.  The structure and the house stood on Kentucky Point for a century.  When the house, was floated down the lake, the necessary was left behind.  Recently, it was reunited with the house, and its physical presence was restored to match the renovated house.  Take a dive into history and learn about completing the movement by clicking here.
