The annual Clark Lake Cup hockey match is scheduled for Saturday, February 4th at 1 pm.  Will it happen?  It’s unusual that Clark Lake isn’t frozen solid in January. The lack of ice has cast doubt on whether the Clark Lake Cup, East vs West end, will be played.  This morning’s temperature offers some hope (Tues 1/31).  In single digits overnight, the lake is beginning to firm up.  Will the weather cooperate with solid ice for Saturday?  Here’s the Weather Channel forecast as of 9 am, Tuesday.

On Saturday (1/28), the Polar Plunge took place.  A light cover of ice covered the plunge area at the Marina dock.  The crew pushed away the ice, and took a temperature reading—36 degrees.  Given the temperature was already close to freezing then, the forecast above tends to provide comfort that conditions will be suitable for the game by Saturday.  If the organizers believe the ice is deep enough on the lake, the game will be played at the east end near Ocean Beach Road.  The location is similar to the night game of two years ago.  Come back to this website for updates.

Last year, the west end hosted the game.  The original plan to create a smooth rink in front of the Eagle’s Nest was dashed because of light snow overnight.  So, the morning of the game, the rink moved to the Eagle Point cove.

West end players wear the Eagle Point jersey.  The east end team wear the Almeda Court jerseys.  Here’s a look of the action from 2022.

At the conclusion of the 2022 match, another match took place. What was it?  During the photo session, Almeda Court asked repeatedly for one more picture, but within that request was a code shared only within the group.  All members but two were to step away, leaving just two people. But it didn’t quite work that way.  Morgan Hojnacki, on her skates began to leave with the others.  Only one person remained behind—Brandon Snead.  But those who knew the plan had a quick remedy.  Friends gently kept Morgan in place as Brandon dropped to his knee.  Brandon then asked Morgan to marry him.  Here you see the engagement ring about to be slipped on Morgan’s finger.

Below are pics of those who enjoyed the cold and celebrated the day.
