One of two greatly anticipated births has taken place.  Welcome KC’s foal to Clark Lake.  Above, Jill Bentley is with KC, the mare, and KC’s offspring, a colt.  This photo was taken around 2 pm today (Tues 4/9), not long after Jill first saw the addition to the herd.  Jill believes the birth took place just before midnight yesterday (4/8).  It’s common for mares to deliver at night, and this one occurred in Jill’s pasture 1.  Around 7 this morning, Elaine Stewart, who has a good view of the pasture from her home in the Cove, spotted the new arrival and sent a text to Jill.  Jill didn’t see it until this afternoon, but she knew something was up.  The horses had come back to the stable, but without KC.  She went out to the pasture and found KC and her foal.  There, KC introduced her  newborn to Jill.

KC’s foal has not yet been named, although quite a bit of discussion and speculation about the topic has taken place in the Eagle Point neighborhood.  Updates on the name, still ahead.

One of the tasks when welcoming a foal is to imprint it properly.  Being around it sets the stage for more harmonious relationships as the horse grows to adulthood.

When it’s time for lunch, somehow foals know what to do.

If you viewed the previous article about Jill’s horses, you’ll recall that a second birth is also on the way.  Flame is expecting.  Here she is in her stall this afternoon.
