Armed robbery suspect Robert E. Geiger was arraigned today (2/14) in 12th District Court.  He’s accused of robbing Kelly Fuels at the corner of Jefferson and US 127 on August 16th at 10:40 pm, according to Columbia Township Police (which at the time was reported on the website).  Police described what happened:  “The suspect entered the store through the main front (west) doors, approached the staff and demanded cash. During the incident, the suspect displayed a weapon as well. The suspect fled the store on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. A police K-9 was requested and aided in the search for the suspect, however the effort yielded negative results.”  Township Police were assisted by State Police and Jackson County Sheriffs Department.

After completing numerous search warrants, interviews, and evidence collection a suspect was identified.

On February 9th, 2023, Columbia Township police officers followed up on investigative leads regarding this armed robbery that took them to Saginaw County. Once in the Saginaw County area additional evidence was located further incriminating the suspect to this investigation. Columbia Township Police Department worked in collaboration with the Saginaw County Sheriff’s Department to further this effort.

On February 10th, 2023, a police report was forwarded to the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s office for review of criminal charges. Following a complete review of the police report 34-year-old Robert E. Geiger of Burt Michigan was charged with one count of armed robbery which carries a maximum penalty of life in prison and one count of weapon – felony firearm that carries a mandatory sentence of two years in prison to be served consecutively with and proceeding any term of imprisonment imposed for the felony conviction.

On February 14th, 2023, Robert E. Geiger was arraigned before 12th District Court Judge Daniel Goostrey. Judge Goostrey set bond for Geiger on the Jackson County charges at $250,000 cash / surety. Currently Geiger continues to be held at the Saginaw County jail on various non-related charges coinciding with crimes committed in Saginaw County. Geiger is scheduled to be back before Judge Goostrey on March 2nd, 2023.
