For the last few months, Carol Hunt and Lori Giorgi have been getting settled as the new owners of Doyle’s Market. Since the day Judi Kelly handed over the keys, they have been getting to know the clientele, the vendors, learning how much inventory to order, and the diving into the many details that come with running a business. And they have brought their other-half’s along for the ride.

Both couples live at Lake Columbia though they had explored Clark Lake as a possibility. How did Carol and Lori come to own a convenience store at Clark Lake? The story begins when they were in the same kindergarten class at Haigh Elementary in Dearborn. That’s when they made a pact that someday they would go into business together. Kids have dreams that come and go. For Carol and Lori, the idea never left them. So, when they saw that Doyle’s was for sale, that piqued their interest. They had been customers and got to know Judi.
Carol says “an well-established business appealed to us.” Lori adds “we can’t believe how well it came together.” Carol notes how welcoming customers have been. “Doyle’s is a locally owned store – we want to keep it that way, serve the community, give back to it, and be part of it. We so appreciate the support we’re receiving, and are very grateful.” Both are listening to customers and are interested in feedback on the best items to stock.
Brian Hunt points out a significant difference between Lake Columbia and Clark Lake. “Clark Lake is public lake, and there is much more going on here – good news for a convenience store.” Tom Bachleda says “Brian and I look forward to supporting Carol and Lori and to keep up a good thing going.”
Doyle’s is open 9 am – 8 pm Monday through Saturday, and 9 am – 6 pm on Sunday.
Now that their dream is a reality, Carol and Lori appear to be enjoying the experience. “And we’re glad Clark Lake is part of it.”
Doyle’s Market is one of the local businesses that support ClarkLakeSpirit.com. You can click through to the Doyle’s Facebook page through the tile on the website, as you can for the websites of other supporters – A Plus Electric, Beach Bar, Brokerage House, Brooklyn Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, Eagle Point Marina, Monroe Superstore, and M-R Builder. Another is soon to join the group – stay tuned!
Best of luck to Lori and Carol and their other halves! I am sure they will quickly find that Clark Lakers are a friendly and loyal bunch. As a ROR committee member, I am grateful for their willingness to continue to sell our merchandise.
I went to Haigh school in Dearborn. My parents had a cottage out at Clark Lake in the 1960’s-1970’s. I still go out there and lay in the sun.
