Fire destroyed a Clark Lake residence this morning that was unoccupied at the time. The house at 364 Oakwood Avenue is on the south side of the road and is a total loss.
The blaze began sometime around 6 am. Houses on either side were threatened.
The fire, presumed to have started in the garage, spread to the house. Columbia Charter Township Fire Chief Scott Cota, who was at the scene, says details will be provided as the investigation goes forward. Bill Bendele has been called to take down the remaining structure to prevent collapse.
As flames engulfed the house, this video was taken by Courtney Hill and was forwarded to the website by Kellie Garris.
Multiple departments responded, aiding Columbia Township. Others at the scene included Township, State Police, and fire departments from Summit, Napoleon, Grass Lake, Somerset, and Liberty. In addition to manpower, the water they brought aided the fight. JDart was on hand in support of the firefighters.
At around 6 am, the temperature was 1 degree, and was only slightly warmer at the time this photo was taken. The bitter cold added to the firefighter’s challenges, like improvising on warming the hands.
Godbless all the first responders and those who are helping with this tragedy!
