Today (Mon 7/15), friends and family of George Truchan will gather at the Eagle’s Nest Bar and Grill from 2 pm – 6 pm for a celebration of life.
George, who had been a police officer and attorney, passed away at age 68 on June 27th. His obituary tells how he moved his family to the area and opened a law office in the late 1980’s. The obituary goes on to describe how he “held many hats over the years, and obtained professional and honorable titles of police chief, public safety director, sheriff captain, police lieutenant, police sergeant, patrol officer, court magistrate, court director, and attorney-at-law.” His story notes how “he provided citizens with legal remedies through his law office and public safety within police departments, as he was able to capture active bank robbers, and criminals over the years, along with giving separate counsel to people in need of help. This giant loss has not only impacted George’s family, but will affect the entire tri-county area, law enforcement family, court family and friends.”
Clark Lakers may know George Truchan. Eagle Point’s Blair Huff says both George and son, Jay, enjoyed Clark Lake. Both had slips at the Marina. Jay, who is a Jackson County Sheriffs Deputy, initiated a life jacket program, making them available at loan stations at area lakes. Blair donates jackets to the program, and in this photo from 2023, he is pictured with Deputy Truchan and the Marina’s Shannon Kulhawik.
Several events Monday afternoon are planned to honor George Truchan. Aviation demonstrations and fly over will take place throughout the gathering. Napoleon Township police cars and fire trucks will be at the Eagle’s Nest. A band will play from 4 pm – 6 pm in his honor.
