“It’s like living next to a motel,” said Susan Sweierzbin. Addressing the Columbia Township board on Monday (5/20), that’s how she described an airbrb next door, on Lakeview West. In the video below, you’ll hear her comments, and the concerns of another neighbor, Steve Pearse, who lives on the other side of the airbnb. At the end of the video, Supervisor Barry Marsh responds with comments on the issue that he gave just before the meeting adjourned.
Has anyone provided any proposed solutions to address the problem. ? Complaints without proposals to make it better do nothing to solve the problem..
I wouldn’t like it either!!!
Oh my, I heard they had 5 cars at the “so called wedding.” Probably need to make sure there is a limit on guests and cars at all the weddings that occur on Clarklake every year. …. And chairs…. Certainly should be a limit on chairs…tables also…. So much for being neighborly… This “neighbor “ did not say that anything bad has happened at this house…..but she didn’t know the people. Does she know all the people that are invited up to all the houses on her street? She must be a busy lady…
I agree! What’s the difference between an air bnb and people lending their cottage out to friends?
I was a child back in the early 1970’s and our family rented cottages at Clark Lake every summer. They weren’t called AIRBNB’s back then but they were weekly rentals. It gave us a chance to enjoy the lake every summer even though we couldn’t afford to purchase a lakefront cottage. I didn’t hear the speaker give any negative details about problems with the rental property other than that, there were new people. I’m familiar with the cottage that they are referring to, and the owner has done a nice job of fixing things up and keeping Clark Lake looking good.
Let’s not crack down on rental & Airbnb before we crack down on our biggest problems, the parks & boat ramp. These get thousands of wanted & unwanted visitors yearly. The rental & Airbnb units pay property TAXES & contribute to our local economy. The majority of park goers & boat drop in parties do not contribute.
As an overview of Lakeview dr residential ownership, many are professionals, owners of successful companies, etc. My family purchased our Lakeview home over 50 yrs ago. It wasn’t purchased as a way to supplement our income. It has been our “little bit of heaven” and pride to spend summers on the shore of CL and on the lake. Lakeview dr is zoned residential not commercial. This particular prop is being used as a turnkey/motel 6 (orB&B) home. It is rented nightly not weekly or monthly. In addition their Paying guests are allowed to take their noisy party time outside as late as 2am. This has occurred regularly resulting in neighbors wondering how to handle this lack of respect not to mention lack of sleep. Even if a party was held in a property zoned commercial at 11pm the party ends. We’ve been told this propery’s usage might negatively affect our prop valu es. It’s time to re-define what is residential, what is commercial etc.
We live in the area and our parents will rent a cottage for a few weeks or a month so that they can come in town and see family. They were originally from the area. We are always respectful and they are quiet and good renters. We spend a lot of time at local restaurants and shops. It’s actually probably good for the local businesses. I would really hate to see them remove the airbnbs.
