The Life Jacket Safety Program is designed to “promote water safety and prevent tragedy,” says Sheriff Deputy Jay Truchan.  And they are being put to good use.  “It was nice to see small children utilizing the loan station life jackets on Memorial Day at the Clark Lake County Park.”  The loan stations are currently located at 7 lakes, including Clark Lake.  A loan station consists of 8 life jackets and is based on the honor system.  In addition to being used for swimming, boaters can also use the life jackets to ensure they have enough for everyone.

Blair Huff, owner of Eagle Point Marina, has supplied the program with dozens of life jackets.  Pictured here with Deputy Truchan are the Marina’s Shannon Kulhawik and Blair Huff.

In addition to Blair Huff”s donations of life jackets, the program has moved forward with the support of Sheriff Gary Schuette and Undersheriff Christopher Simpson.  The loan stations were made and assembled by Spry Signs, Concord, and installed by the Jackson County Parks Department.
