Early Sunday evening, temperatures plummeted to single digits.  Although the lake has frozen over a few times in December, it didn’t last.  This time could be different.  The Weather Channel says today’s high will reach 26, but return to the teens tonight.  The forecast for the rest of the week also suggests the ice is here to stay on Clark Lake.

Before last evening’s temperature drop, winds were calm.  As the lake froze, the ice was, and still is, mostly smooth. Precipitation would disturb that finish, and there doesn’t appear to be any in the near-term forecast.   Once the ice is strong enough to walk on, looking down could reveal a look at the bottom you don’t normally see.

In the slide show are views of the lake from the DamCam and Spirit Cam.  All were taken around 9 am today.

By afternoon, one adventurer stepped out on the newly formed ice.  Here’s Lemon Lyons checking things out.
