After the County learned of the possibility of a cave in on Lakeview West, they took quick action.  Before the holiday, barricades informed motorists that unless you were a resident, seek alternate routes.  Scroll down for a video in which Michael McCarthy explains how support under the road had eroded.  The potential existed for a car or bicycle to break through.

The culvert allows runoff from the Eagle Point swamp to flow to the lake.  This aerial photo shows the path.

This morning, Jackson County Department JCDOT crews arrived on the scene, dug up the old culvert so it could replaced with a new one.  Then, they will fill with pea gravel, dirt, and repave.  It may be possible to drive over the area as early as late today.

Here’s the video that illustrates the hazard.
