Trees can make a huge difference – they provide shade and gently project an element of beauty that’s hard to replicate. But, trees can also threaten. The winter of 2023 proved the point as an ice storm felled trees and large branches. One damaged the historic ‘necessary,” now called the toolshed at the Community Center. Thanks to Mike McKay and Flip Reynolds, this piece of Clark Lake history was repaired.
One tree was still standing, but without a major branch. The status of a second tree was also questionable, and continued to create concern. If either fell or lost a major branch, it could injure someone in the park or cause catastrophic damage to the Pretty Pergola or the historic structures. So, recently both trees were eliminated thanks to the excellent work of Chad from Professional Tree Care, and to Flip Reynolds who made the arrangements.
Of course, when trees come down, the skies open. The new found sunshine could lead to new plantings, and add to the beauty of the Garden Angels’ Pretty Pergola.
The work of the Garden Angels is a sight to behold. This video begins with the tree work and then takes you on a short tour around the Community Center.
Because of the generosity of Clark Lakers, the Community Center is in great shape. Saving the former Graziani cottage preserves a 125 year Clark Lake legacy. Standing watch on Kentucky Point, it embraced Clark Lake’s heritage for over a century. The inspiration to save it and the effort it took to restore it shows just how much the community supports what it means. That was true when it was floated down the lake and lifted high on the hill to its current location in the County Park. It was true during the first restoration, true again during the most recent restoration, and true because of the loving care it continues to receive. Most of all it tells a truth about a community that believes in itself.
As most Clark Lakers know, the Community Center is available to rent for reunions, weddings, neighborhood gatherings, baby showers, graduations, birthdays, and life celebrations. Click here to learn more.
Rentals cover everyday Community Center expenses. The recent renovation, restoration, and improvements came about through the generosity of donors who gave from the heart.
Lovely video! Thank you Rick.
