Columbia Charter Township trustees again heard arguments on short term Clark Lake rentals at last night’s monthly meeting (Mon 7/15). Public comment occurs at the beginning and end of the monthly Township sessions. Each person who speaks is allowed 3 minutes to give his or her views to board members. In the following video, the owners of a rental at 750 Lakeview West, Lauren Craig and Andrew Scott, presented their views on the use of their property. Neighbors at 744, 756, and 760 also spoke about it, as you will see in the unabridged video. At the end of the meeting (and video), Township Supervisor Barry Marsh comments on the discussion. He notes that Brittany Stein, Township zoning officer, may bring recommendations to the board in the August meeting regarding the topic.

I am a resident living on Lakeview. I attended last night’s Twp meeting. Heard Laren mention they had their prop surveyed. Came home after the meeting and noticed the survey stake had been relocated onto their adjacent neighbor’s property.
this happened.
Cynthia, you are correct. This is the location of the property marker based on the results of the survey. This property marker will be permanently affixed there in order to clearly identify property lines.
We are hoping to avoid these petty arguments in the future. This way, our family and friends will know where they can park, as it will be clearly marked. We hope to avoid any more disputes regarding our personal property, bonfires, parking. We hope that neighbors will respect our rights as property owners and also stop harassing and intimidating us, our children, and our guests. This has gone far enough.
So sorry this has turned into a neighborhood dispute. Years ago there were several weekly, monthly, rental properties at Clark Lake and over the years they have disappeared and turned into year around residents. These rentals are what brought people to Clark Lake.
Beverly,
There are actually lots of rentals still on the lake! I counted 30 Airbnb listings on Clark Lake when I looked today (there are probably more- I just looked at the ones available for rent in August), and I know of at least a dozen other people on the lake who rent their properties by word of mouth. I know it’s important to people to be able to utilize these rentals. For people who can’t afford to buy, rentals are their only way of getting to enjoy the lake!
We have also carefully vetted every single person who has stayed in our home. We wouldn’t want someone to come in and damage our place and disrespect neighbors or have any nuisance-related issues!
It takes far less energy and much less anxiety and unnecessary stress to just get along, be peaceful and friendly vs unfriendly, argue, fight, etc. It is so much easier and more enjoyable all around to recognize that people are all different – but everyone has special individual qualities. Focus on that instead of what you individually prefer.
Nobody walks in other people’s shoes, lose your pride and just bury hatchets. Try it – if you can only imagine!
I totally agree! We are a devoted community here Clark Lake I want us all to get along if we have problems we need to address them.
Thank you so much Rick Belcher for your dedication and time!
