You sometimes see Sand Hill Cranes around the fields in our area.  Less frequent are their visits to Clark Lake.  These two were enjoying whatever morsels they could find along the Eagle Point shoreline (west end) this morning.  Aside from their grand form, you also notice their unusual call as they take to the skies.

Anyone who has tried to capture natural encounters via camera knows the challenges.  The subjects arrive and depart on their own schedule, they don’t let you get too close to the action, and they typically don’t pose for you.  This morning, our couple was more cooperative.  Although they stopped hunting for food once they spotted the photographer, they didn’t instantly take to flight and continued to walk back and forth on the lawn making possible shots from different approaches.
