Once again, Brooklyn Kiwanis is launching the annual program that ensures you can easily display an American flag on each patriotic occasion through the year. These dates include Armed Forces Day through July 4th, Labor Day through September 11, and Election Day through Veterans Day.
The Kiwanis team places and collects flags for each event. To enable this work, Kiwanis asks for your financial support. If you have already subscribed, there are two payment methods – mail a $40 check to PO Box 364, Brooklyn, MI 49230, or pay online by clicking here.
If you are a first time subscriber (or need to update your information), click here to fill out and submit a form.
Questions? Contact Linda Reynolds at (517) 745-2466 or Chris Holbert at (517) 938-5178, or by email at brooklynkiwanismi@gmail.com.
The flags are made in the USA and bought locally. When you subscribe, an in-ground flag mount will be installed for easy delivery and posting. Once the holiday is over, Kiwanis will retrieve the flag and pole, and store it until the next holiday. The flag and pole remain the property of Brooklyn Kiwanis, and subscriptions to this program are renewed on an annual basis.
Some thoughts on our flag. The stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union. The colors of the flag are symbolic as well; red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.
The flag is strongly identified with battles in which men and women risked all in defense of country. Likewise it makes a statement when it’s under attack as with current protests that attempt to denigrate it and malign what the United States of America stands for. Whether for the 25-hour bombardment of Fort McHenry in 1814, U.S. Marines conquering Iwo Jima under terrible fire during World War II, or the battle for independence on our own soil, is it not fitting to memorialize bravery, courage, and sacrifice?
Imagine flags flying in the breeze as you travel the Spirit Trail through the neighborhoods at beautiful Clark Lake.
Brooklyn Kiwanis thanks you for your support. Flag donations make an impact on children’s programs that are supported by the club, and with those who partner with Kiwanis on the project.
This salute to our flag was recorded on July 4, 2019. The National Anthem was performed at the Memorial Day Parade that year by the Columbia Central Band.
This is my fourth year participating in this program. I love it. Each time, when I see my flag has been placed, I feel part of something great. A true Democracy. May we always be so.
Thanks for getting this out there. We proudly display several flags at our business Boyers Tool in Jackson through the Jackson Kiwanis Club.
Looking forward to seeing many flags throughout our community!
I too am proud to participate in the flag program. I hope others will see our flag flying as I see it….a beautiful symbol of freedom and the great democracy we must all protect.
Thanks for doing this. Proud to support the Kiwanis by displaying the flag.
