This morning’s dawn at Clark Lake offered a special treat–a pillar of sun.  Thanks to Ann Swain, we have this photo of it.

“History does not repeat itself; but it may rhyme” is a quote often attributed to Mark Twain.  It was precisely two years ago that Ann took the photo below from the same perspective.  The colors are different, but notice the “rhyming” pillar from the rising sun.

A University of Illinois indicates “sun pillars form when sunlight reflects off the surfaces of falling ice crystals associated with thin, high-level clouds.”  Thanks to Fritz Wilger for finding that information on the Illinois website.
