Prancing on the CarpGard

As it turns out, the bird that performed for the DamCam on Friday was not a Sandhill crane, as first noted.  John Deming corrects the record– “it is a Great Blue Heron, similar in shape, but different in color.”

The heron hopped up on the CarpGard then made its way on the cement abutment and finally departed with wings spread.  About this visit, John provides an interesting insight.  ” I’m interested in it’s appearance on the dam because I have for years thought that maybe the ducks that hatch on the lake may jump the dam and go down stream. The heron is a major predator of wood duck ducklings. Perhaps he was there for a purpose other than ‘TV air time’!”
