Andy Shawaker, with a cottage on Eagle Point, responds to the dead swan story.

Shoreline at Ocean Beach

This photo is from the earlier “dead swan” story and was taken at the Ocean Beach shoreline.

We have friends who have a cottage at Lake Columbia, and a few years back we witnessed two swans fighting. We believe that they were both males and the one was intruding on the male and his female “partner’s” area. I am sure they are very territorial and I believe they mate for life, so this male was defending his “bride!” It was actually a fairly violent fight with the one male biting down on the long neck of the intruder, not letting go, and holding the other male under water.  The other male ended up dying. So, this could be one potential cause for the dead swan.
